A name can say a lot about who someone is or what an organization is about. Understanding the meaning of our name is important to understanding our heart and the reason we exist.
The story of the Bible is the story of God's redeeming work. It is a book about God breaking into the suffering and brokeness of humanity through Jesus Christ and giving people hope, new life, and the promise of restoration.
In the book of Exodus, God's people are suffering, they are in slavery and they are in need of healing and deliverance. God hears their cries of agony and begins a plan of deliverance and salvation for his people.
The plan of redemption centers around a feast/ceremony called The Passover (Exodus 12:1-13). During the night of the Passover, God comes to judge his enemies and those in rebellion against him. The people of Israel are spared only when they cover the doorposts of their homes with the blood of a sacrificial lamb. In essence, they received grace and redemption by painting their doors with the blood of the lamb.
The Gospel of John declares that Jesus is the ultimate sacrificial lamb that takes away the sin and brokeness of the whole world (John 1:29-34).
At the end of the Bible, we see people who have given their lives for Jesus no longer fearing death or Satan because they have been covered in the blood of the lamb, Jesus Christ. In essence, they have had the doors of their lives painted in the blood of the lamb (Revelation 12:1-12).
People are still in slavery today, some in real physical slavery and some in slavery to sin and addictions. We believe that the grace and love of Jesus is big enough and powerful enough to redeem all people from slavery. We believe that anyone and everyone is able to have their story redeemed by Jesus and that all people are welcome to have the door of their lives painted over by the blood of the lamb, Jesus.
Welcome to The Painted Door.
